A technology that can’t come soon enough

Canada has been talking fast but moving slowly to promote a technology that could help it get out of the environmental doghouse.

Carbon capture, or sequestration, increasingly is touted as a potential solution for big, fat greenhouse gas emissions.

The process could prove important for Canada, a robust energy producer with an economy dependent on spewing emissions by the megatonne.

Reproductor dvd in northern Alberta is exported to the U.S., a profitable flow that could be disrupted by growing environmental sensibilities south of the border.

Under carbon capture and storage, C02 emissions are snared at source, then transported by pipeline to underground storage sites — such as depleted reproductor vhs oil and gas wells — instead of being pumped into the atmosphere. (more…)

Nokia sees half of cellphones with GPS in 2010-12

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to add navigation to half of the phones it sells within a few years to find new revenue streams amid decreasing handset prices, a senior official at the world’s top cellphone maker said.

Michael Halbherr, the head of Nokia’s location-based activities, told Reuters he remains comfortable with Nokia’s year-old goal for seeing up to 50 percent of its phones equipped with global positioning system (GPS) chips in 2010 to 2012.

“We are planning to ship 35 million GPS units this year,” Halbherr said, adding “and many more location-enabled phones that use cell-towers to orient themselves on the map.”

“You will see few ‘E’ or ‘N’ Series phones without GPS,” he said. (more…)

Even sitting unpowered on my kitchen bench, it attracted a series of “Now that’s Mickey Mouse” or “What is that?” digs from AV buddies.

Four of us — Froggy, Wolf, MacReagan and I — form an exclusive Audio-Video Sad Tragics Club (AVSTC).

We meet monthly to tech-talk about the latest gear while downing a few beverages.

B&W’s Zeppelin iPod sound system guest-starred at our last AVSTC session.

Froggy is fresh from a stint at Her Majesty’s expense in historic Beechworth.

MacReagan’s job as an airport baggage handler funded his plasma TV, but his ex wants the tele in their property settlement.

Wolfie is single — and single-minded about iPods. He flies into a rage at their mention.

Love or loathe them, Apple’s iPod range has been one of the most successful audio-video products — ever.

Since being unleashed in 2001, more than 150 million of these iconic MP3 players have been sold. (more…)

Nokia N95, Rogers, $400 with three-year wireless contract

The Nokia N series smart phone offers so much more fun than mere chatting, and the eight-gigabyte N95 launched recently by Rogers is no exception. Flip it sideways and it shoots five-megapixel photos like a regular handheld digital camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a 20X zoom. The 2.8-inch (seven centimetre) screen can flip between landscape and portrait or upright modes and lets you watch videos or TV, surf the web, or just listen to music. It slides two ways, with one way giving access to the multimedia controls and the other sliding open to reveal the keyboard (www.rogers.com). (more…)

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the Internet didn’t spring out of a golden egg hatched by a mythical hen. Many of today’s innovations are born of people who had innovative ideas, but who did not stop at simply having an idea. They took one brick of capital, another brick of knowledge, perhaps a brick or two of friends and family, and built their empires brick by brick. Building an online empire, with today’s technology, may be all the more easy. But with the rest of the people online who want to build their empires and will risk everything in order to get fame, how can you shine?

If you want to build that online empire, you cannot settle for simply having one website full of articles, or a website full of pictures – there are already thousands of sites like that online, and you need to come up with something new and innovative. In other words, you are going to have to be the whole package. An empire is not just one little town or one measly little hamlet where you can get the latest in sword design and armor packaging. So your online empire is not just one little site where you can download a few screensavers a month. Your online empire is going to be the one stop shop for anyone who needs anything in your field.
